Studio Lights in Palm Springs California

As a Palm Springs lifestyle photographer, the open horizons make for excellent defining light for bodybuilders. In contrast though, its not so great for lifestyle work. Using studio lights to fill shadows is an effective way to shoot under harsh light but give a softness for lifestyle photography in Palm Springs. Another perk to using strobes effectively is that it will help separate you from the pack.

All of the shots above were shot with studio lights, except the lower left one, which was all natural light. While I personally like the lower left photo, for commercial applications the shadows on Annabelle may be too dark. Simply throwing in a strobe fills those shadows in, and gives that higher end look that. As for studio shots to not look like generic yearbook photos, thats a mix of lighting angles and post processing.

Natural Diffused Light in Palm Springs California

If you're a Palm Springs lifestyle photographer and looking for a really soft look, you can simply shoot in a shaded area with the sun behind your background. Here I set up a pastel seamless paper background to block the sun that was behind Annabelle. This setting gives a very soft, diffused lighting. There was a bit of sunlight getting through to the lens that gave a bit of a haze/saps contrast, but it worked here well enough.

Shooting in Palm Springs can be difficult, but utilizing several different shooting methods will help in getting professional results. Rather than turning down work, just practice different methods. Learn them all and you'll be able to accomplish tasks for all types of creative directors, realtors, agencies, and more in the Palm Springs area!
